Position Purpose:
Under general supervision of the Program Leaders and Camp Director, ensures the safety of the public, campers and staff at the Kenilworth Beach by preventing and responding to emergencies.
Counselors assist Program Leaders. Counselors and are responsible for carrying out daily activities as directed by the Program Leaders and Directors.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Under the direction of program leaders assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their camper group within activities and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes.
ï‚­ Be aware of and implement safety guidelines.
2. Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers within the mission and outcomes.
ï‚­ Actively participate in all program areas as assigned..
3. Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
ï‚­ Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to camp director.
4. Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
ï‚­ Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
ï‚­ Set a good example to campers and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.
5. Represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members.
ï‚­ Follow safety and security protocols when campers are in public while presenting a positive image of the camp.

The Kenilworth Park District offers a quality internship program to students working toward a degree within the field of parks and recreation or related areas of study. The internship provides a comprehensive experience of district operations including administration, programming, employee management, facility management, camps, historic properties, special events, budgeting, leadership, marketing, and maintenance based on the desires and interests of the intern and the needs of the Park District. The exact hours for the Intern will vary, depending on weekly activities and special events; however, the Intern will work approximately 30-40 hours per week, including night and weekend hours when appropriate.

The Kenilworth Park District Summer Recreation Internship provides the opportunity to integrate and apply knowledge, theory, and understanding from the academic setting to the working environment. The intern shall serve under the supervision and guidance of the Recreation Coordinator and the Executive Director. The main function of the Summer Recreation Intern will be to assist the Recreation Coordinator with summer camp, the largest program for the park district.

Essential Functions:

Manage personnel schedules, organize class schedules, confirm special events, and ensure the safety of program participants.

Attend staff meetings.

Learn and work with recreation registration software.

Assist with budget management and help coordinate day-to-day planning.

Prepare and submit reports as required by the Director.

Gain direct leadership experience by implementing programs, and special events and assisting at various facilities.

Assist with all things summer camp.

Provide timely, accurate paperwork and reporting.

Encourage the safety of all program participants and fellow staff by following Park District Safety Guidelines.

Qualifications:

Must be a current student of an accredited university, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, or a related field looking to complete an internship. The student must provide their own housing and transportation. This internship will also serve as a qualified internship for Masters Degree candidates pursuing a Masters in Recreation or Public Administration.

Summer Camp Counselor – 2024

The Kenilworth Park District is seeking mature, dynamic, motivated, energetic, fun, and responsible individuals to be Camp Counselors for
the Little Springs and Sports Plus Summer Camps.

Camp Counselors are responsible for assisting Program Leaders and camp Directors in directing,
supervising, and organizing campers in their groups within activities throughout the camp day.
Counselors participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers.
Counselors are responsible for maintaining high standards of health, safety and are to be role models
for campers in their attitude and behavior.

Camp Counselors must be 15 years of age or older.
Candidates will receive an email with instructions to schedule an interview.

Kenilworth Park District Sports Plus Summer Camp

Pay Range: $18 – 20/Hour based on qualifications.

The Kenilworth Park District is looking to build a team of summer camp staff with professional, knowledgeable teacher/program leaders. This is your chance to be a part of a great summer camp program with an emphasis on fun!

Teacher/Program Leaders Reports to Summer Camp Director

Teacher/Program Leaders Supervise Counselors and Children

Duties and Responsibilities:

Carry out the mission, vision, and values of the Kenilworth Park District Summer Camp

Maintains an open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child and family.

Design and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum to nurture and stimulate the social, physical, cognitive, and cultural needs of the children in care.

Responsible for developing weekly themed lesson plans.

Report any classroom concerns to the Director.

Regularly attend staff meetings and training.

Maintains a neat, orderly, and safe camp experience.

Creates an inviting and stimulating environment for the children.

Responsible for securing health, hygiene, safety, and overall well-being of children at all times.

Involves the classroom counselors and Aides in curriculum planning.

Strict compliance with universal precautions in the camp and when administering First Aid.

May perform other duties as assigned by the Director or other Supervisor.

Counselor in Training (CIT) Program

Time:

  • 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM

Dates: 

  • Option 1 – June 10th to July 3rd
  • Option 2 – July 8th to August 2nd
  • Option 3 – June 10th to August 2nd

Price:

  • $500 (4 Week Program)
  • $975 (8 Week Program)

  • The Joseph Sears School & Townley Field

Ages: 

  • 12 to 15 Years

Program Description

Join the team and experience what camp is like from a leader’s point of view.  Develop teamwork skills and self-confidence while learning how to plan, organize, and manage a good camp program.   This hands-on experience will provide you with the skills needed to be an effective leader when working with children. CITs work closely with camp staff by assisting with daily activities at both Little Springs and Sports Plus summer camps.  This is a rewarding experience for teens interested in working with children and serving as a role model.

Applicants will be invited to interview and if selected for the program attend training on June 7th.
