📢 Public Announcement: Demolition of Townley Field Playground
Dear Residents of the Village of Kenilworth,
We are excited to announce that the Kenilworth Park District has received approval to commence the demolition of the Townley Field Playground, situated on the southern end of Townley Field. This initiative marks a significant step forward in enhancing our community’s recreational spaces.
The demolition project is made possible through the generous support of an OSLAD grant awarded by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Beginning on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, demolition work will commence, starting with the installation of construction fencing around the designated work area. We anticipate the construction phase to last until the end of September.
To ensure transparency and address any concerns or inquiries from our residents, representatives from Hacienda Landscaping, the awarded contractor, will be present on-site. They will introduce themselves to neighbors residing in the vicinity of the construction area.
We understand the importance of community engagement and welcome your feedback. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding the project, please do not hesitate to reach out to Executive Director John Kiwala at 847-376-9238.
For those interested in reviewing the final design plans for the playground, they are available for viewing on our website at Final Design Plans. We encourage everyone to stay informed and engaged throughout this process.
The Kenilworth Park District is committed to serving the needs of our community, and we are thrilled to bring forth this exciting enhancement to our neighborhood. Construction updates and additional information will be shared with the public regularly throughout the project duration.
To ensure you receive timely updates, we encourage you to register for the Kenilworth Park District newsletter.
Thank you for your cooperation and support as we work together to create a vibrant and inclusive recreational space for all residents to enjoy.

UPDATE: August 11, 2023
The Kenilworth Park District Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) working group received revised proposals from three play structure companies for the construction of a new playground as part of the OSLAD grant application. The working group focused on proposals that were inclusive in play, provided opportunities for a wide age range, fit the community aesthetic, fit into the budget, and created a fun and inviting atmosphere for all who gather to it. The three companies were Kompan, Landscape Structures, and Burke. After thorough discussion and design alterations, the OSLAD working group will be recommending at the August 17, 2023 Board of Commissioners meeting that the Park District move forward with Landscape Structures with some improvement modifications requested for the final design. The working group will be presenting the playground proposal at the August 17, 2023 Board meeting at 5:30PM at the Kenilworth Assembly Hall.

Townley Field Update July 20, 2023
Members of the Kenilworth Community,
What were once two concepts, have now become one concept based on your amazing and thoughtful feedback. The Kenilworth Park District has applied for the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant. The grant is for $400,000 in matching funding from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Next Steps
Due to the size and complexity of this project and pairing that with the limited financial ability of the Park District, private funding will need to be raised in order for this project to move forward. The Park District will be interviewing professional fundraising groups to assist in this incredible effort. In the coming weeks, the District will develop a plan of action on how to move forward with a thoughtful and transparent fundraising effort. Kenilworth Residents will be updated regularly on all aspects of the Townley Field Corridor project and a communication plan will be a large part of our efforts. Please stay tuned and sign up for our e-newsletter for more updates.
If you would like to be involved in any potential committees for the Townley Field Corridor, please reach out to Executive Director John Kiwala at jkiwala@kpdistrict.org.
